How to Take An Effective Mental Health Day

Mental health days are a necessity, not a luxury.

We all have our breaking points, and sometimes we need a day to hit the reset button. If you're considering taking a mental health day, there are a few things you should keep in mind to make sure it's effective.

First, don't feel guilty about it. You're not being lazy, you're taking care of yourself.

Second, make sure you disconnect from work. That means no checking email, no taking calls, and no obsession over that big project you're supposed to be working on. It can be tempting to try to sneak in a little work, but trust me, it's not worth it. You'll just end up feeling resentment and defeating the purpose of the day.

Third, do something that makes you happy. Go for a walk in the park, read your favourite book, or just spend some time hanging out with your dog (or someone elses). It doesn't matter what you do, as long as it's something that brings you joy.

Finally, don't forget to give yourself a break tomorrow. You deserve it.
